CULTURAL HERITAGE TOURISM SURVIVAL TOOLKITS

In response to the recent economic downturn, a number of organizations have compiled online toolkits with advice about how to survive—or better yet, thrive—despite the tough economy (see below). As part of a project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts through a Chairman’s Extraordinary Action Grant, the Heritage Tourism Program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation is compiling an online toolkit with resources for the broad range of cultural and heritage tourism attractions (including museum, arts organizations, historic sites, communities, heritage areas, scenic byways and others). A key component of the toolkit (scheduled for completion in the fall of 2010) will be case studies to showcase successful strategies undertaken by attractions from across the United States.
